Overview

ColoServe MailFilter is a network-based content filter designed to help businesses and other domain administrators deal with the growing problem of spam and viruses. Simply point the MX records for your mail server at ColoServe's MailFilter servers and your email will be passed through a number of tests to determine whether the message is spam or a virus, with spam and virus free Emails then delivered to your normal mail server.

While many Email filtering solutions cost as much as $10 per mailbox per month, ColoServe is offering the MailFilter solution for the flat rate of $39.99 per domain per month, providing a simple and low cost solution for our resellers, web hosting companies, and business customers to block spam and viruses.

Identified spam and viruses can either be delivered to your mail server for further processing at the client level, or they can be sent to a quarantine account. Because the entire transaction is done via SMTP, which all mail servers must support to send/receive Internet Email, ColoServe MailFilter supports all commercial and non-commercial mail server software and does not require any end-user or mail server configuration. The filtering can be enabled with a simple DNS (domain name service) MX record change.

Once messages are properly identified, you have a choice of two options for message handling and delivery. Identified spam Emails can be either be sent to a special quarantine account (bulk@yourdomain.com, for example), or they can simply be tagged and sent on to be delivered as normal, and your end users can set a simple rule in their client software (such as Outlook, Eudora, etc.) to filter any tagged emails automatically into a folder. Viruses are automatically deleted at the start of the filtering process.

In either scenario, the emails can be automatically filtered to a junk or bulk folder for future review or deletion. ColoServe MailFilter even provides a simple way of automatically updating our filtering algorithms in the rare event that the filter incorrectly categorizes an Email. If you receive an Email in your inbox that you consider Spam (false negative), or the filter flags an Email that you do not consider spam (false positive), simply forward it as an attachment to Email addresses provided by ColoServe and the filter will be automatically updated.

Please note that ColoServe MailFilter is only available to ColoServe customers for mail servers hosted on our network, due to the low cost of the service and potentially high bandwidth costs of forwarding mail outside of our network.
