Full 100Mbps & Gig-E Connections

All ColoServe San Francisco collocation plans include a full 100 Mbps Internet connection, private VLAN, and HSRP protection on the newest Cisco switching gear to connect to our Screaming Fast Network™.

Many hosting companies throttle port speed to 10Mbps, and we’ve even heard a few that still do 512k or less. At ColoServe, we figure our customers want the full power of the Internet and our network, whether they need it or not. When that big story hits in the New York Times about your startup company, you can rest assured that a full, burstable 100Mbps Ethernet connection is there for you. After all, if you wanted your web site offline because of throttled bandwidth getting saturated, you would have gone with a shared hosting account, right?

Is every colocation bandwidth connection really 100Mbps?

Yes, every ColoServe colocation package really does have a fully burstable 100Mbps connection. We don’t throttle our ports to limit how high you can burst or how much data you can transfer in a month. The one exception to this rule is that our special 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth plans are capped at 10Mbps (these plans give a full 10Mbps with no metering, meaning they are all-you-can-eat, with no per Mbps or per GB of data transfer charges).

Gigabit (1000 Mbps) and 10 Gbps!

For the ultimate in scalability, if you need speed beyond our standard 100Mbps, Gigabit ports (1000Mbps) are available as an optional upgrade on all of our dedicated servers and high-availability server networks. Burst caps on full gigabit connections are related to your bandwidth usage and commitment. Please contact sales for more information on Gigabit connections.

If your need for speed exceeds even the huge capacity of a Gigabit line, ColoServe is ready for the next frontier in Ethernet technology – 10 Gbps! In 2006 ColoServe finished completely rewiring our data center with Cat 6 instead of Cat 5e Ethernet wiring to support 10 Gbps connections. Cat 6 cabling has fewer errors due to its improved transmission performance and superior immunity from external noise. This means fewer re-transmissions of lost or corrupted data packets, which translates into higher reliability and superior data throughput for Category 6 networks compared to Category 5e networks.

Do you really need all that bandwidth? Maybe not right at this moment, but data rates have been doubling every 18 months, and applications running at 1 Gbps are already pushing the limits of Cat 5e cabling. The demands for faster data rates will definitely increase as IPTV and other bandwidth intensive applications become more popular.

Cat6 cables are dramatically less prone to errors and data loss as shown in this third party research.

Unmetered Bandwidth Connections

If you have read this far, you probably are concerned about performance, and you may use a fair amount of bandwidth. If so, you may be interested in the unmetered, flat rate connections that ColoServe offers.
